AHEC's in Indiana...
East Indiana Area Health
Education Center (EI-AHEC)
The EI-AHEC Steering Committee has
elected to file articles of incorporation as a non-profit organization
in Indiana. They will pursue 501(c)(3) federal tax exempt status. They
will be engaging a consultant to assist in start-up activities and will
be meeting monthly to begin to form the structure and rules for their
governing board. Many of the organizations represented by the Steering
Committee members have already committed to start-up funds to support
the AHEC’s activities.
During this contracting year, Margaret
Mary Community Hospital (MMCH), in Batesville, IN will contract with
Indiana University to act as the fiscal agent on behalf of the EI-AHEC.
The “interim” Project Director/Principle Investigator will be Nancy
Marticke (contact info below). They will not be hiring a Center Director
immediately. The “interim” Chair of the non-profit org board is Tom
Talbot.
The EI-AHEC has been invited to
nominate an individual to serve on the statewide Indiana AHEC Program
Advisory Board and any of the three committees of the Indiana AHEC
Program. Additionally, they have been invited to send a representative
to the AHEC Center Directors meetings. They have been provided with the
calendar of upcoming meetings (scheduled through 2012).
The EI-AHEC consists of the following
counties: Henry, Wayne, Rush, Fayette, Union, Bartholomew, Decatur,
Franklin, Jennings, Ripley, Dearborn, Jefferson, Ohio and Switzerland.
The AHEC Program Office has the
following amounts set-aside for the EI-AHEC, with an effective start
date that can be retroactive to the effective dates of the funding:
- Federal HRSA Basic/Core AHEC
Funding (effective 9/1/09) EI-AHEC $225,000
- State Indiana AHEC Funding
(effective 7/1/09)
EI-AHEC $23,750
