Richard D. Kiovsky, M.D.
Dr.
Kiovsky is a native Hoosier and received his medical degree from Indiana
University in 1976. He completed his Family Medicine residency training at
Mercy Medical Center in Denver, Colorado. Prior to his academic
appointment in 1990, he served in private practice for 11 years in Aurora,
Colorado. Shortly after joining the Department, he completed his Academic
Fellowship in Family Medicine from the University of North Carolina,
Chapel Hill.
Dr. Kiovsky is Board Certified in Family
Medicine and is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians. He
holds the American Medical Association, Physician's Recognition Award
Certificate (AMA PRA) and is consistently listed among the "Best Doctors
in America" for his clinical specialty.
Dr. Kiovsky holds the rank of Professor
of Clinical Family Medicine and currently serves as Director of
Undergraduate Medical Education and President of UFP, Inc., the
Departments Practice Plan. In 1998, he served as the Department’s Acting
Chair for 2 years and subsequently served as Vice-Chair of Clinical
Affairs until 2004. In January 2006, Dr. Kiovsky was appointed Director of
the Indiana Area Health Education Centers Program (AHEC).
Dr. Kiovsky's educational activities
have included the development of the required third-year clerkship in
Family Medicine and the Primary Care Scholars Consortium; the latter
dedicated to improving the healthcare provider shortage problem in
underserved populations. He also assisted in launching the Indiana AHEC
program in 1999-2001.
He has received 7 teaching awards and
has led multiple national faculty development workshops designed to
enhance community-based physician teaching skills. He has served as
National Chairman for PreDoctoral Education for the Society of Teachers of
Family Medicine.
Dr. Kiovsky serves as a member of the
Medical School’s Admissions Committee and serves as Faculty Advisor for
the Christian Medical Student Association. He also serves on the Board of
Directors for the Medical Institute for Sexual Health, a scientifically
oriented organization promoting abstinence outside of marriage and
fidelity within marriage. He has been married for 34 years and has 3
children.
