Northeast Indiana Area Health Education
Center (NEI-AHEC)
Northeast Indiana Area Health Education
Center (NEI-AHEC) is a unique and exciting collaboration among IPFW School
of Health Sciences, Indiana Area Health Education Centers Program Office,
Indiana University School of Medicine, Fort Wayne Health Disparity
coalition, the Dr. Jeff Towles Health Disparities Initiative and other
community health care providers and schools to serve 19 counties in
northeast and east central Indiana. The Center is located in the Lafayette
Medical Building in the heart of urban Fort Wayne with room to provide
health services, educational programs and resource material.
Purpose: The NEI-AHEC goals are to
- Promote access by all citizens in the
area to quality health, dental and mental health care
- Recruit minority students into health
profession careers
- Enhance the curriculums of health
care provider students by offering hands-on learning experiences
- Provide continuing education for
health care providers to assure culturally sensitive care.
Services: The Northeast Indiana AHEC will
collaborate with the community to -
- Work with under-represented
populations to provide health screening, case management, health
education and services referral by Healthcare and other students from
IPFW via service learning and collaborations with area health care
providers
- Provide information about and access
to registration, financial aid, and advising services for IPFW and other
area educational programs
- Provide access to courses to enhance
the preparation of health care providers and assist in meeting the
educational needs of area citizens
- Work with schools in area to recruit
children into health careers and provide health information and
screenings
- Offer continuing education for health
care providers
