My experiences at North Shore Health Centers during summer 2008 were very positive, yet also challenging. Since North Shore Health Center is a Federally Qualified Community Health Center, a large portion of the patient population is on Medicaid. This is a patient population that I had not seen before. It was a good experience for me to learn how difficult the health care industry can be on this group of people. <more>

Hilltop CHC Inspires Med Student Emma Nordstrom

My interest in medicine began when I was fifteen. I worked as a file clerk at a family practice down the street from my home. The experiences I acquired there and observations I made from the physicians treating patients motivated me to consider a career in family medicine. I saw this summer break during medical school as an opportunity to revisit my interests in family medicine and see if this field would still be a good fit for me. I am thankful that AHEC could arrange a family practice experience for me at Hilltop Community Health Center. <more>
